Increasing the lifespan of my flag
Flags (especially larger Flags) can be expensive and at the heights and locations they are flown, the wind can be brutal, causing them to wear quickly (sometimes less than 30 days). Circumstances which cause flags to wear quickly are high winds, rain, snow, pollution, rough surfaces or sharp objects. Pulled threads on the flag indicate that the flag is catching on something. It is important to eliminate hazards that destroy flags. Check for the following:
- Check if the flag is coming into contact with any rough surfaces, such as buildings, trees, wire, cables
- Check the rope, snap hooks, counterweight, necklace/retainer ring, and the flagpole for any sharp object or rough edges that may touch the flag
To increase the life of your flag, we recommend you should wash it approximately every 3 months in a normal household detergent (you will need to wrap a sock around metal clips, this will prevent washing machine damage). Also check for any obvious areas where stitching may come apart, and repair if necessary. FoxFlags offers a complete repair service, so get in touch with us if your flag is in need of repair.
Flags must fly free of any obstruction. If a flag is hitting a roof, trees, the side of a building or any other object, irreparable damage can be done to the flag cloth. Choose the right size flag for your pole. Flags flown on poles which are not large enough for the flag, may damage the flag, the pole or both. Also It is most important to always hoist flag to the very top of pole, and securing as closely to the top of pole as possible (except in circumstances where the flag is flown at half mast).
