Venezuela was one of the three countries that emerged from the collapse of Gran Colombia in 1830 (the others being Colombia and Ecuador). This flag, with equal stripes of yellow, blue and red was introduced in 1836 and has since undergone several changes in the arms and the arrangement of the stars. The seven stars represent the seven provinces that were involved in the fight for liberation led by Francisco de Miranda.
The colours are similar to those of Colombia and Ecuador, but the Venezuelan flag is distinguished from the flags of these countries by the equal width of the stripes. The yellow represents the golden land of Venezuela; the blue represents the sea that separates Venezuela from Spain, which is represented by red. The red is also said to represent the liberation struggle and the blood spilt by those who were willing to fight and die for their country.Contact us to purchase
