When studied on a map, the islands of the archipelago that form Vanuatu are in the shape of a "Y". This has been symbolized on the flag by the yellow "Y" shaped stripe. Yellow, green, black and red were the colours of the Vanuaaku Party that led the country to independence as Vanuatu in 1980.
The black represents the people and the rich soil, the yellow symbolizes peace and the light of Christianity, the green represents the islands and the red is a symbol of the unity of the Vanuatu people. The boar's tusk is representative of wealth and prosperity; to grow a boar's tusk into a spiral requires the top tusk to be removed necessitating the hand feeding of the animal, only people of means are able to afford a pig feeder and the food required. The fern fronds are a symbol of peace; the 39 divisions on the fronds represent the 39 members of the Representative Assembly.BUY NOW
