Possibly the most famous flag in the world, the Stars and Stripes (a.k.a. the star spangled banner or old glory) has a field of 13 alternating red and white stripes representing the original 13 states and a blue canton containing 50 stars representing the 50 states of the union. The original version of the flag dates from 14th June 1777.
The 1777 flag replaced a variety of revolutionary flags including the Grand Union Flag first raised at the beginning of 1776 by George Washington in proclaiming the organization of the Continental Army; this flag had the 13 stripes but with a Union Jack in the canton. The first version of the USA flag had 13 stars to recognize the 13 original states of the union, with a new star added for each subsequent entrant to the union, the star being added on the 4th July following its admission. The current flag was adopted on 4th July 1960 following Hawaii's admission to the union in 1959.BUY NOW
