The flag of Slovakia originally dates back to 1848, a turbulent and revolutionary period in Europe and a period of Slavic desire for self-determination from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Blue, white and red are traditional Slavic colours. In 1918 the Slovaks joined the closely related Czechs to form Czechoslovakia. The same flag was adopted as the National flag of independent Slovakia in 1939 and remained in use until 1945.
It again became the official flag in 1990 and was used by Slovakia, which at that time was part of Czechoslovakia and was described in the constitution of 1st Sept 1992, four months before Slovakia became independent. The arms with their double cross set upon the central hill of three hills are based on a part of the Hungarian arms, although their symbolism has changed.Contact us to purchase
