The Seychelles achieved independence in 1976 after decades of British colonial rule. The flag adopted at the time was only used for about a year before it was changed by the new Prime Minister to the flag of the ruling party of the time, the Peoples United Party (also known as the Peoples Progressive Front). This flag was again changed in 1996 when one-party rule was abolished to the flag now in use.
The current flag contains the colours of the two main political parties, the blue and yellow representing the Democratic Party, and the red, white and green representing the Peoples United party. The Blue symbolizes the sky and the sea, the yellow represents the sun, red represents the people and their determination to work in unity, white represents social justice and harmony and green stands for the land.Contact us to purchase
