The world's third smallest state also claims to be the world's smallest and oldest republic, founded by Saint Marinus (for whom the country is named) in 301 A. D. San Marino's foreign policy is aligned with that of Italy. Social and political trends in the republic also track closely with those of its larger neighbour.
The flag of San Marino dates back to 1797 when the white and blue cockade was adopted, the colours being derived from the coat of arms, which features three towers on a field of blue. The towers represent three castles built on the three peaks of Mt. Titano: Guaita, Cesta and Montale. The blue of the cockade is said to represent liberty and the sky above San Marino, and the white to represent peace, white clouds and snow on Mt Titano.Contact us to purchase
