Disputed between France and Great Britain in the 18th century, Saint Vincent was ceded to the latter in 1783. Autonomy was granted in 1969, and independence in 1979. In common with many other States in the West Indies, The St Vincent and the Grenadines flag was the winner of a design competition.
The lozenges, or "Gems", an abbreviation of "the Gems of the Antilles", are said to represent the nature of the state, with its many cultures and many islands, and is in the shape of a "V" to represent "Vincent". The blue is said to represent the sky and the sea. The green symbolizes the lush vegetation of the islands and the vitality of the people. The yellow represents the abundant sunshine, the golden sands, the bright spirit of the people and warmth. The flag is sometimes known as "The Gems" .Contact us to purchase
