The flag of Paraguay is unusual because it is the only national flag in the world that has a different design on the back to the design on the front. It is thought to be derived from the red-white-blue tri-colour used in 1812, the colours probably based on the colours of the French tri-colour. The flag features the state Arms on the front (obverse) and the treasury seal on the back (reverse).
The state Arms feature the Star of May. On the reverse, the treasury seal shows a lion guarding a Phrygian cap, a common motif, denoting the defense of liberty, and the words "Paz y Justicia" (peace and justice). The red band is said to represent patriotism, equality, courage and justice, the white to represent steadfastness, unity, peace and the purity of ideas, and the blue to represent kindliness, love, sharpness, sense of reality and liberty.Contact us to purchase
