The current flag of Nicaragua was first adopted in 1908. It is derived from the flag used by the Central American Federation (or United Provinces of Central America), established in 1821 when Spanish colonial dominion ended, this flag being a simple blue-white-blue tri-band. This union consisted of the five countries; Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala.
The colours and their arrangement reflect Nicaragua's geographical situation, with the waters of the Pacific on one side, and the Caribbean on the other. The Arms in the white band contain five mountain peaks representing the five members of the CAF. The triangular shape of the arms represents equality. The Phrygian cap represents liberty, a motif common on South and Central American flags, and the rainbow represents peace.Contact us to purchase
