Mozambique gained independence from Portugal in 1975 when the flag of FRELIMO - Front for Liberation of Mozambique - that led the struggle for independence was adopted as the temporary flag. The flag was green over black over yellow fimbriated white, and with a red triangle in the hoist. This flag was replaced by the current flag in 1983.
The colours symbolize: green for the land and its riches, black for the African continent, gold for mineral wealth, the red triangle at the hoist stands for the fight for freedom and the two white fimbriations are for peace. The symbols in the red triangle, the rifle book hoe and yellow star are drawn from the country's coat of arms. The star expresses internationalism, the book represents education, the hoe agriculture and the Kalishnikov rifle symbolizes attain independence.Contact us to purchase
