When the Marshall Islands and Palau broke away from the original United States trust Territory of Pacific Islands in 1979, the trust was renamed the Federated Sates of Micronesia and a new flag was adopted. The old flag was a field of blue, the same colour as the UN flag, as the islands were originally entrusted to the USA by the UN, and had six stars representing the original six areas of the islands covered by the trust.
The current flag however has only four stars representing the remaining four states: Kosrae, Pohnpei, Truk and Yap. Each of these states have their own state flag. Pohnpei, on which is located the capital, Kolonia, accounts for more than 50% of the total land area.Contact us to purchase
