Kyrgyzstan has been an internationally recognized independent state since 31 August 1991 and is a member of the UN and the CIS. In 1924 a Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region was set up as part of the Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic. In 1926 the Region became an ASSR and became a full SSR in 1936. The present name was adopted in 1990, some ten months before independence from the collapsing USSR.
The word Kyrgyz originally meant red, and has been the national colour of this area for centuries. Red was also the colour of the banner of Manas the Noble, who struggled for unity and formed the Kyrgyz nation. The sun symbolizes light, eternity and infinite nobility. The 40 rays represent the 40 tribes united by Manas. The sun is charged with a device representing the Yurt or tent, and symbolizes hearth and home, thew unity of time and space, and the origin of life and solidarity.Contact us to purchase
