This flag, called Hinomaru (disc of the sun) has been in use since at least the 14th century. The red disc recalls the name of Japan (the land of the rising sun) and the worship of Amaterasu Omikami (the sun goddess), the most venerated goddess of the Shinto religion. It is also claimed that the Japanese Emperor is directly descended from the sun goddess.
This flag was originally the flag of the Tokugawa and was adopted by the state in 1870. The colours reflect the spirit of Shinto ethics, based on a bright pure and gentle heart. The white symbolizes purity and integrity, the red symbolizes sincerity brightness and warmth.BUY NOW
