Gibraltar is located on a narrow peninsular on the south coast of Spain. Strategically important, Gibraltar was ceded by Spain in 1713. In a 1967 referendum, Gibraltarians ignored Spanish pressure and voted overwhelmingly to remain a British dependency. Although the colony's state flag is that of Great Britain, an unofficial flag has existed since 1966, and has been legal for use on land since 1982.
It has a narrow red band beneath a broad white band. On this is placed part of the city arms, granted by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain in 1502, showing a stylized three towered castle, with a golden key issuing from the gate. This is to represent Gibraltar's strategic importance as the gateway to the Mediterranean.Contact us to purchase
