Gabon Flag

Gabon became an autonomous republic within the French community in 1958 and gained full independence on 9th August 1960. The flag used between 1958 and 1960 was similar to the one in current use, although the yellow stripe was narrower, and the flag featured a French tri-colour in the canton. The current version was adopted on independence and was inspired by the geographical position of Gabon.

The green represents the forests, the blue represents the Atlantic Ocean, and the yellow represents the sun, and the line of the Equator, which passes through Gabon.
