The flag of El Salvador is similar to the flags used by Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. These countries, along with Guatemala, formed the Central American Federation (CAF), also known as the United Provinces of Central America, the flag of which was a simple blue-white-blue tri-colour. El Salvador adopted the CAF flag in 1912.
The blue stands for the skies, and brotherhood, and the white for the desire for peace and purity of thought. The arms contain a Masonic triangle, symbolizing equality, its angles representing the three branches of government, legislative, executive and judicial. The volcanoes stand for the five nations of Central America flanked by the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Included also are the Phrygian cap (Liberty), a rainbow (Peace) and golden rays (the people). The 14 clusters of leaves represent the number of departments in El Salvador.Contact us to purchase
