The origin of the Ecuadorian flag is much the same as that of the Colombian and Venezuelan Flag. The yellow, red and blue are the colours adopted by freedom fighter Francisco de Miranda (1750-1816), and used by the Federal Republic of Greater Colombia, to convey the message that the nation, represented by the yellow, was separated by the sea, suggested by the blue, from Spain, represented by the red.
The red was also said to represent the liberation of the South American territories and the blood the people were willing to shed in liberating these territories, the yellow to represent the sun and natural resources, and the blue, the sky and sea. The current version of the Ecuadorian flag is identical to the Colombian flag except for its narrower shape, and has been in use since 1860.Contact us to purchase
