The flag of Dominica was first hoisted on 3rd November 1978. Since then it has undergone several changes one of which included the parrots aspect being reversed. The parrot is the Sisserou, a bird unique to the island, and symbolizing flight towards greater heights and fulfillment of aspirations. The red circle symbolizes socialism. The ten stars represent the ten parishes of Dominica.
The Black-yellow-white cross is of Christian origin, the triple colours symbolizing the holy trinity; the yellow also represents the sunshine, the main agricultural products of citrus and bananas and the Carib people, the black represents the rich black soil and the majority African-descended people, and the white for the rivers and waterfalls. Alternative suggestions for the white are peace and purity. The green background of the flag is said to represent the lush vegetation.Contact us to purchase
