Cuba's flag was officially adopted in 1902. It was designed by a Cuban poet Miguel Teurbe Tolon in 1849, and was based on the American "Stars and Stripes", at the request of General Narcisio Lopez, a Venezuelan who was anxious to liberate Cuba from the Spanish and claim it as his adopted country.
The single star, called "La Estrella Solitaria", was selected to light the way towards freedom and was taken from the flag of Texas. The Cuban flag became known as "La Estrella Solitaria". The triangle is the Masonic symbol of liberty, equality and fraternity, and the three blue stripes represent the three sectors into which the Spanish divided Cuba. The white symbolizes the pure intentions of the revolutionaries and for justice, the red represents the blood shed in the conquest and defense of freedom.BUY NOW
