The current Belarussian flag was introduced on 7th June 1995. It replaced, by decree, the white-red-white tri-colour re-adopted in 1991upon the break up of the USSR and which was first introduced in 1918, before being replaced by the communist invaders.
The tri-colour was used in great numbers during rallies and demonstrations against the regime of the pro Russian President of the time, Alyaksandr Lukashenka. As a result of these protests, a presidential decree was issued introducing the current flag, which is similar to the flag of Soviet Belorussia (1951-1991) with the hammer and sickle removed. A white and red national ornament appears on the vertical stripe at the hoist.Contact us to purchase
