The basic design of this flag was introduced in 1971 when Bangladesh achieved independence from Pakistan after a bloody struggle. Before this, it was the eastern province of Pakistan, separated from West Pakistan by India. Earliest versions had, on the red disc, an outline map of the country in yellow, but this was dropped in 1972.
The disc is placed slightly left of centre, in order that it should appear to be in the centre when the flag is fluttering in the wind, and represents the sun of freedom, the red colour denoting the blood spilt in attaining that freedom. The green of the background has several explanations: it is an Islamic colour, the majority of the people are Muslim; it represents fertility; it symbolizes the youth of the country and reflects the country's lushness.BUY NOW
