This small area in the eastern Pyrenees has been a separate state since 1278. Its sovereignty is guaranteed by the joint authority of the French head of state and the bishop of Urgel in Spain. The flag of Andorra has been used from circa 1870 as a civil flag. The state flag (used on government buildings, etc.) has, in addition, the arms of Andorra on the yellow stripe.
The Blue-Yellow-Red tricolour is the combined colours of France and Spain, Blue and Red representing France and Yellow and Red representing Spain. The Arms combine the Arms of the bishopric of Urgel, the Counts of Foix, Catalonia and Bearn. The motto is "United strength is stronger". The French and Spanish versions differ slightly in the coat of arms, with the French version topped by a crown with the two cows facing the opposite way.Contact us to purchase
